Unlike a lot of others in my generation, I don’t especially have a lot of Transformers nostalgia. Either they came just before my time, and I mean “just” because I do have a few toys, or Nintendomania and the Ninja Turtles were simply much more alluring to me. Either way, despite lacking what seems like a necessary component, I’m still looking forward to Transformers: Devastation.
Why is that? Well, like I said, I have a lot of Nintendomania nostalgia, by and large due to Capcom, and Transformers: Devastation is being developed by PlatinumGames, a company made up of some of Capcom’s best and brightest former designers. When it comes to Japanese action games, they are simply the best there is. Activision was so right scooping them up for the development of this game.
Plus, Transformers: Devastation is so perfect in its presentation, it could stroke my hair and send me off to a happy dreamland of Dreamcast memories. The Transformers themselves are just superficial to me. I’m all about the old-school arena brawling and that oh-so perfect cel-shaded graphic style used in cult hits like Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and most importantly, Jet Set Radio. It’s amazing how retro that has become these days.
This new trailer was released by Hasbro at the San Diego Comic Con this week. Transformers: Devastation is very reminiscent of PlatinumGames’ online brawler Anarchy Reigns, but I haven’t gotten around to that one yet to make specific comparisons. From the looks of it though, this won’t be just a crappy licensed game.
There is… dare I say… more than meets the eye. Transformers: Devastation will be released for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
