Deadline reports that a new Batman movie is already in the works with Ben Affleck firmly at the helm of the project. The movie star is apparently set to direct and star in the film, which he’s currently co-writing with DC Comics chief creative officer Geoff Johns.
Johns has a pretty great track record when it comes to DC Comics. He’s written his fair share of popular comic books for the company. He also worked on episodes of Justice League Unlimited, Smallville, Arrow and The Flash. Affleck has yet to prove he can do Batman’s character justice, though we’ll know more once Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters next year.
In the meantime it sounds like Affleck and Johns are making quick work of the new Batman script. They’re apparently planning to turn in a full draft later this summer. It’s unclear when the movie might actually be released, though Deadline notes that it’s likely to get priority in DC’s crowded roster.
An earlier rumor suggested the solo Batman flick could be slated for release in November 2018, though we won’t know for sure until DC Comics makes an official announcement. For now head to our homepage for more Batman news and everything else coming out of San Diego Comic-Con 2015.
