Facebook Music not happening, company says

Two separate reports have suggested that Facebook is interested in launching some sort of streaming music service, but the company says it’s not happening.

First, one report claimed that Facebook had been speaking with music labels such as Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group. If true, it seems to have at least some sort of interest in music, right? Another separate report on Thursday morning said Facebook was trying to take on YouTube with a music video service instead, which also seems plausible given the company’s efforts to expand and promote video content recently.

Despite all of this, Facebook told The Verge that no such project is in the works. “We have no plans to go into music streaming,” a spokesperson explained. It’s possible Facebook is just being coy to hide its intentions from competitors but, at least for now, don’t plan on a music service soon.
