Chime, originally released for Xbox 360 and then later for PC and PlayStation 3, was one of the best puzzle games last generation. Now, the original developer is looking to bring us a new iteration on the idea with Chime Sharp and has launched a Kickstarter to pursue it.
Ste Curran, who led the development of the original, is asking for just $15,000 to get the game out on PC by December. Additional funds from there will help investigate new game modes and allow the team to pursue more music licenses. At the time of this writing, the campaign has already pulled in $12,000 USD.
With the sequel, the team is looking to update the look and improve on what made the original game work – the beat-sequencer-meets-Tetris gameplay had a unique curve of relaxation that became stress as I pushed myself to improve my high score. I put hours and hours into the game on Xbox Live before purchasing it again on PlayStation 3 for the additional tracks and dumping countless hours into those as well.
