The Xbox’s chief market has been America since the very beginning. Microsoft is an American company and is seen as such in Japan and European markets alike.
Sony has consistently done better in both of these markets, though not with the same amount of momentum we’re seeing this time around.
Sony Computer Entertainment’s president Jim Ryan said in an interview with VG247 that Sony is leading in every country in Europe and that the company is enjoying “very significant market leadership in continental Europe.”
“I don’t think market-share’s any less than 70 percent and frequently greater than 90 percent in continental Europe,” he said.
Huge titles like Batman: Arkham Knight, which was advertised specifically for PlayStation 4 despite also appearing on Xbox One, as well as partnerships like Call of Duty‘s new relationship with PlayStation that puts DLC on their system first certainly help bolster the system on top of its already huge momentum since launch.
Sony has a huge lead for Microsoft to catch up to, and these kinds of numbers show just how big that lead is in some places.
