iPhone 6c said to feature a 4-inch display and metal frame

iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5s-6

Apple’s rumored iPhone 6c isn’t expected to arrive until next year, after the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus launch in September, but a new report reveals that the device could pack at least one big surprise. Jeffries analyst Ange Wu claims the device will feature a metal frame instead of a plastic shell like the iPhone 5c.

“Although iPhone 6c is designed as an extended version, it still uses metal casing based on Apple style,” Wu wrote. “We believe that Apple remains consistent in its design.”

The iPhone 6c could actually be closer to the iPhone 5s than the iPhone 5c, suggesting high-end specs and all the latest features. It makes sense to offer a nicer and more expensive option for anyone interested in grabbing a smaller iPhone, rather than push another cheap plastic handset.

This latest prediction comes from a survey of Apple’s supply chain. Wu notes that Cupertino’s two main sources of metal casings may be gearing up to produce a new smaller iPhone frame. However, it won’t actually launch until at least the first quarter of 2016.

That means Apple likely still has plenty of time to finalize any decisions regarding the iPhone 6c. In the meantime we’re expecting the company to unveil the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus this September with upgraded hardware and Force Touch capabilities.
