Motorola Mobile Devices vice president of product sales and operations David Schuster recently took to Google+ to confirm that the DROID Turbo soak test to Android 5.1 upgrade is officially rolling out to registered users on the Motorola forums. That’s good news that we already knew was happening, but he also offered up something even better.
Schuster’s note confirms that “if all goes well we will open it up later this week” to all DROID Turbo users on Verizon, officially ending what has been a bizarrely long update process to Android 5.1 Lollipop. The phone, for whatever reason — perhaps certification to run on Verizon’s network with the new software — is one of the last flagship holdouts running Android KitKat.
You can expect several updates in the release, the biggest of which are the moves to Material Design and improved notifications. Ambient Display is also included in the launch, as is the function to chop twice to access the flashlight and more.
