EA boss says they will delay Star Wars Battlefront if it’s broken

Face it, we’re in an era where gaming publishers and developers rely far too heavily on the notion of post-launch patches in order to fix their games. These companies are held to deadlines put on them by investors and the fiscal calendar, so selling a broken game in order to hit profit margins is sometimes more important than holding it until it’s fixed.

It’s good news, then, that a major publisher is willing and able to push their heaviest hitters back if need be. It’s especially good when that publisher has a history of releasing broken games; maybe they’re learning.

Enter EA and Star Wars Battlefront.

EA COO Peter Moore says Star Wars Battlefront is ready. It’s running 40 player matches in rock solid fashion, and he expects that DICE will have it set to launch this fall, when it’s expected. If, however, it’s broken? They’ll delay it.

Here’s Moore with MCV

”Well you can’t ship it if it doesn’t work or the quality isn’t right…You just bite the bullet.

Trust me, shipping Hardline in March was not the easiest thing to do from a business perspective, but it was the right thing to do from a player perspective…

…We’d have no compunction, no hesitation that if something went wrong with Battlefront, if it wasn’t right, we would just push it.”

That’s great. This was a company that released an incredibly broken Battlefield not long ago. They can’t afford a broken Battlefront.

Star Wars Battlefront will ship, pending major breaks, on November 20, 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
