On Thursday, OnePlus announced that it will unveil the OnePlus 2 on July 27. The company said it’s going to do things a bit differently, and will unveil the device using virtual reality. On Friday, it revealed OnePlus Cardboard, its own take on Google Cardboard that will allow folks to tune in.
“Imagine experiencing the OnePlus 2 with us, right here, without ever leaving your house,” the company said. “Imagine how powerful that could be. VR is going to change the world, and we want to help make it happen.” The company’s Cardboard is stronger and thicker than other models, is 20 percent smaller and works with most devices up to 6-inches in size, and has a special film that repels dirt and oils.
“We aren’t making any money by offering OnePlus Cardboard,” OnePlus said. “In fact, we are losing money with each one. There will come a day in which we will be able to travel the world and experience amazing things without ever leaving the comfort of our homes. OnePlus Cardboard exists to drive this idea forward.”
OnePlus Cardboard will be available soon and is free but will require you pay the cost of shipping. You can sign up to receive an alert when it will be available now.
