BBM gets huge update with new Private Chat feature and more

private-chat

BlackBerry updated BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for iOS, Android and BlackBerry 10 on Friday. The update includes an awesome new privacy feature and, for Android at least, was built completely from the ground up with Material Design.

The new “Private Chat” is probably the highlight of the release, and it sounds really cool. Each conversation you hold lacks profile pictures and names, so there’s no real “evidence” that you ever partook in it, and the convo ends shortly after it’s started. You’ll also be alerted if someone takes a screenshot, not that the screenshot is going to provide any damning evidence against you anyway.

The Private Chat feature is available for iOS, Android and BlackBerry 10 as part of BlackBerry’s “Privacy and Control Subscription” which costs 99 cents a month and also includes timed messages and pictures, the ability to retract messages and pictures, and an edit option.

The release also includes an improved sticker management system, an option to quote messages inside of the chat and improved font rendering on iOS. Hit the source to read more.
