T-Mobile announced its latest Un-carrier move on Thursday, and it’s an evolution of its Un-carrier 2.0 announcement, when the company unveiled its JUMP! upgrade program. The new initiative, called JUMP! On Demand, allows you to pay a single monthly fee that covers your smartphone payment and allows you to upgrade up to three times a year (or “whenever you want.”).
“Get a new smartphone for zero out of pocket with qualifying credit, and zero sales tax due today, followed by one low monthly payment that includes the cost of that new smartphone and, for free, the ultimate freedom to upgrade whenever you want,” T-Mobile explained. You’ll need to turn in your old phone, however, and it needs to pass a three-point check-up. T-Mobile said the cost is the same as regular financing, though payments are made for 18 months. If you cancel before that time, remaining payments are due and you have to pay off the full cost of the phone.
“After 18 months, you can simply turn in your phone with nothing more to pay, or upgrade to your next new phone and start a new plan, or make a final payment and keep your phone,” T-Mobile explained. “If you keep your phone and make the final payment, the total of your payments will equal the retail price of the phone.” You can also pay off the full cost of your phone at any time.
In an effort to celebrate the launch of JUMP! On Demand, T-Mobile is offering the 16GB iPhone 6 for $15 a month with JUMP! on Demand, which requires you to turn in your current smartphone.
Finally, there’s some small print: JUMP! On Demand is not available with Contract Freedom, which is T-Mobile’s offer to folks who are switching carriers. You also need to pay off 50 percent of the full retail price of your device before you’re eligible for any upgrades. Sound good? Hit the source for more.
