A new report claims that an iPhone 6 exploded this week during a hands-free phone call. The owner, Kishan Yadav, survived unscathed after throwing the two-day old device out of his car window, according to The Times of India.
The event took place in India over the weekend of June 20, though Yadav didn’t file a police report until Tuesday. He says the iPhone began sparking during the phone call and became extremely hot. Somehow he managed to grab the device and chuck it out the window, where it exploded upon impact with the ground.
“My face could have got burn (sic) as the phone exploded in a matter of seconds,” Yadav told The Times. “When I threw the phone, the call was on and the battery was around 70 percent.”
Yadav said he brought the charred device to the local store where he bought it, where he was told to go directly to Apple. The company apparently took the destroyed iPhone, though it’s unclear if Yadav has received a replacement unit yet.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard stories of an exploding iPhone or Android device. It happens every so often, likely due to faulty third-party accessories or perhaps a bad internal part. However, this is apparently the first time an iPhone 6 has exploded in India since the device launched last year.
