Is Batman going to get another solo movie?

Once Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice drops next year, we’re going to be seeing a lot more Batman in the coming years.

In addition to appearing in Suicide Squad, Justice League: Part One and Justice League: Part Two, the dark knight will also apparently get his own solo movie, with a penciled in release for November 2018.

According to Latino Review, Ben Affleck will star and direct in the upcoming solo film, though it isn’t clear what the plot will be; Oscar-winning Argo writer, Chris Terrio, is allegedly onboard to write the script.

We’re treating this one as a rumor for now, but it certainly lines up with what Warner Bros. has planned, allowing the studio to compete with the juggernaut that is Marvel.

Here is the current slate of movies coming out pertaining to Batman’s involvement: Batman v Superman (March 25, 2016), Suicide Squad (Aug. 5, 2016), Justice League: Part One (Nov. 17, 2017), and Justice League: Part Two (June 14, 2019). There’s a clear gap between 2017 and 2019, leaving plenty of room for Warner Bros. to slot a Batman movie in there. At least that’s the rumor.

With Comic-Con just a few weeks away, chances are things will get cleared up there—and I’m sure we’ll see plenty of Batman v Superman footage as well. Throwing a wrench into this whole thing is the fact that we don’t know how many movies Ben Affleck has signed on for. Five movies over the course of five years seems like a stretch, especially given this stage of Affleck’s career.

Given the ground that Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy covered, it would be tough to retread what are considered to be modern day masterpieces. But it would also be a shame to see Jared Leto’s Joker be relegated to the confines of Suicide Squad’s ensemble cast. So will we see Batman once again take on the Joker in an upcoming solo film?

Hopefully some of this confusion will be cleared up when Comic-Con kicks off early next month.
