Final Fantasy VII being ported to PlayStation 4 on Oct. 16

Final Fantasy VII Sephiroth

Square Enix promised last year to port the recent PC version of Final Fantasy VII to the PlayStation 4, and it will now be doing so on Oct. 16. Many panned this port as mere trolling when it was announced because they really wanted a remake, but now that a remake actually exists, we’ll find out just how much of that was hot air.

My guess is, unless they own the PSOne Classic version or PC version, each and every fan who trashed it will end up downloading it because talk is cheap.

If you are pumped about the remake but have never played the original Final Fantasy VII, be sure to check it out. A great remake can only ever complement its source material, never replace it. This game will be just as viable and important to gaming history after the remake’s release as it was before, and Director Tetsuya Nomura has even stated that plenty of its content will be changed.

In other words, you won’t be able to fully appreciate the remake without experience and knowledge going into it. Give this a download and play it if you haven’t done so. My guess is you have about 17 years to do so because that’s how long Square Enix is going to take getting the remake onto the market.

Final Fantasy VII will be ported to the PlayStation 4 on Oct. 16 for $15.99.
