OnePlus on Monday announced it’s going to lead the charge of USB Type-C adoption when the OnePlus 2 hits later this year.
On Twitter, the company plainly states that it wants to be the first flagship smartphone with the technology; the news follows up on a reveal from last week that said the flagship will also sport a Snapdragon 810 processor.
We’ve seen minimal USB Type-C adoption thus far, with the new MacBook and Chromebook Pixel being among early adopters. And while we didn’t expect the technology to arrive in our pockets until later this fall, we might not have to wait that long.
This is the second big reveal from OnePlus in as many weeks; the company said it plans on revealing details about its upcoming device little by little, though we still don’t know when the actual device will be available. Given that the company’s first device is sold out, a follow-up seems imminent.
It’s a bold move from a company that will be under the microscope when its second device hits. We already know the OnePlus 2 won’t be quite as affordable as the OnePlus One, so it will need to dazzle in other ways. A Snapdragon and USB Type-C connector is a good start. What else does the OnePlus 2 have in store?
We will find out soon enough.
