Tony Hawk has come out of his time machine and announced to the world that Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 will be released before the year is out. Those looking forward to 10 minute grinds and stunts that go beyond the possibility of the human body can snag the game up on Sept. 29 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
#THPS5 release date is Sep 29 for PS4 & Xbox One. There, I said it. (PS3 & 360 later this year)

Sitting down with Geoff Keighley, Hawk opened up about his excitement for the new game taking it back to the franchise’s roots and explained how the development team at Robomodo is trying to blend some of the older ideas with newer elements. Multiplayer skateboarding matches can feature up to 20 skaters at a time, and your board can pick up elements like electricity and fire by riding over them in the world.
At least the insane combos and easy control scheme are being left intact. Some have called for more realism, but I think the purpose of this release is to tap into the nostalgia of the insane older ones, trying to re-establish the franchise’s floundering reputation with fans. No realism this year.
As for the footage itself, it looks pretty decent. The physics and combos are definitely in place, but it looks like it will need a graphical tune up before the summer is out. Robomodo is developing across two generations, and the places where it doesn’t take full advantage of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are a little obvious.
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will be released next year.
