Sprint’s half-off promotion caught us by surprise when it launched last year. Now the carrier is bringing the same deal to its subsidiary Boost Mobile in an effort to take on rival prepaid services Cricket and MetroPCS.
The offer, which kicks off on Friday and lasts through July 20, promises to slash your bill in half when you switch over to Boost Mobile. A switch from Cricket, which is owned by AT&T, will get you the same amount of data for half as much. Meanwhile, anyone switching from MetroPCS (owned by T-Mobile) will get even more monthly data for 50 percent off.
The promotion will run out after your first year with Boost Mobile. At that point you’ll be migrated over to the company’s regular plans, which aren’t anywhere near as affordable, but still look pretty good compared to the competition.
It sounds like a good deal for the first year. Then again, Sprint’s half-off promotion wasn’t quite as great as initially advertised, at least after you factored in the cost of a new phone.
