Moto 360 finally receives Android 5.1.1 update

It’s about time (pun intended). The best Android Wear smartwatch is finally getting updated to Android 5.1.1, giving the wearable some great new capabilities. We detailed what’s available in the update using the LG Watch Urbane, but this? This is the update we’ve really been waiting for, and makes us forget that we didn’t see the second version of the Moto 360 at Google’s I/O.

Motorola has shared a ton of videos demoing what the new update does. And, spoiler: it does a lot. I’m particularly excited for Wi-Fi, which means you’ll be able to use your Moto 360 even when you’re out of Bluetooth range from your phone. That almost turns your watch into a standalone device, though it still relies heavily on whatever phone you have—and Wi-Fi. Baby steps.

Additionally, the update also includes always-on mode, quick access to apps and contacts, improved notifications, and more Moto Body capabilities. There are some other cool features, which you can see in full detail in our video below. Get to updating!
