ASUS to launch 128GB ZenFone 2 with 4GB of RAM this month

The new ZenFone 2 from ASUS made headlines when it went on sale last month as one of the first smartphones with a whopping 4GB of RAM. And now ASUS is planning to launch another variant that will go overboard on storage, too, with a full 128GB of internal space.

That’s double the amount of flash storage in the existing ZenFone 2, which offers 64GB as standard, but the rest of the handset’s internals remain the same — so adopters get a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is pre-installed as well, and the ZenFone 2’s dual-SIM card slots let you juggle two numbers simultaneously.

We’ve already unboxed the ZenFone 2, and we found it to be a very impressive device for the money. The 64GB model starts at just $199, but the 128GB model will cost around $390 when it makes its debut in Taiwan on June 18.

ASUS hasn’t confirmed whether the 128GB variant will reach the U.S. or other international markets yet — that will likely depend on how well the 64GB model sells. But should you be interested, you’ll almost certainly be able to find this model on Amazon and other online marketplaces in the coming months.
