Apple Watch lands in stores, but you still need a reservation

The Apple Watch is finally available for in-store pickup, though it’s not exactly open season for the smartwatch quite yet. For now, there’s a new Reserve & Pickup service slowly rolling out around the world, and you still need to reserve your device ahead of time.

To claim your smartwatch, you’ll start by picking your local store on Apple’s website. Then the company will let you know if the device is available and what time you can pick one up. You also get to choose the case and band, though there’s a limited selection of models available. Finally, head to the Apple Store to check out the device for yourself before making the purchase official.

The new system should get a full rollout Wednesday, June 17, though stock may still be pretty limited. Eventually you might actually be able to walk into an Apple Store without a reservation, and walk out a few minutes later with a watch, but until then this a solid step forward.
