Ratchet & Clank’s 8 minute gameplay clip has us dying for more

Ratchet & Clank was one of the PlayStation 2’s core franchises and cemented Insomniac as one of the platform’s best developers. While experimenting with stuff like the Resistance trilogy and, most recently, Sunset Overdrive through the years, the team has continually gone back to its best-loved characters.

When we posted the new trailer earlier today we mentioned that this isn’t your usual remake, and this new 8 minute clip brings that point home with a game that was clearly built with the PlayStation 4 in mind. Textures, lighting, and transparency are all over the place, along with flames and smoke and other great looking effects.

Physics are on show, too, as Ratchet busts apart a stack of pipes and watches them bounce believably to the ground.

It’s not so much a remake as it is a new Ratchet & Clank game with the same basic story as the original.

We’re looking forward to playing the original Ratchet & Clank again for the first time next spring.
