4K smartphone from ZTE allegedly in the works

We’re still getting used to Quad HD resolution smartphones, but the industry could be moving on to 4K displays before too long. A new report claims ZTE is developing a device called the Star 3 with an incredible pixel density.

According to MyDrivers, the rumored smartphone could offer a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and a 5.5-inch screen. The display may also feature a “new crystal structure” that would help keep battery consumption down despite all those pixels. Finally, ZTE will apparently offer some super-thin side bezels for the Star 3 as well.

It almost sounds too good to be true, and at this point all we have is some leaked renders and a few alleged specs to go on. There’s no word on when the ZTE Star 3 will arrive, though hopefully we’ll learn more soon.

Rumor has it Samsung is also experimenting with a beefed up UHD display for its upcoming Galaxy Note 5, though the flagship phablet may end up sticking with a Quad HD resolution. At this point it’s likely only a matter of time before some company announces a 4K phone.
