Film Fondue: Here’s how Batman will make Superman bleed

by Brandon Russell | June 6, 2015June 6, 2015 8:00 am PDT

We’ve been spoiled by a glut of juicy content this week. Not only did we see another spectacular trailer for the upcoming Mission: Impossible movie, but confirmation that James Wan is, in fact, going to direct Aquaman. Good move on the part of Warner Bros. Pictures. It’s just too bad we have to wait until 2018—three years from now—until that movie actually hits theaters.

We were also treated by the first official trailer from Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, a fresh standalone streaming service from SHOWTIME, and a rumor about the second Star Wars Anthology movie. You want more Han Solo? Who doesn’t? These stories are but a few from this week, which is rife with some truly juicy rumors, of which we’ll talk about below.

Red Hulk in Captain America: Civil War

Here’s one to mull over. A number of sketchy reports have been pieced together with the conclusion that Red Hulk will appear in Civil War. In the comics, Red Hulk is General Thunderbolt Ross, who just so happens to be in the upcoming movie. That in and of itself doesn’t prove this rumor, but it would certainly make for a compelling reason to get Hulk, who ran off in Age of Ultron, to come back. [Bleedingcool]

Inside Out clip: “You’ve ruined pizza!”

In a delightful new Inside Out clip, we get a chance to see Riley and her different emotions react to the perils of San Francisco pizza. It isn’t a pretty sight, unless you do enjoy broccoli on your pizza. Just say, “No.” [Disney]

Hulk TV show coming to Netflix?

In other Hulk news, the green machine could get his own TV show—and it might be a prequel. Hulk has been the subject of many rumors regarding a TV show, and the walk just won’t die. Marvel is reportedly toying with several “concepts,” so who know how far this one will go. If it does get made, it could be included in its “Phase 2” of Netflix shows. [HeroidHollywood]

No Nick Fury in Captain America: Civil War

Samuel L. Jackson told Collider straight-up that he won’t be in Captain America: Civil War—and even he doesn’t know why. “I can’t figure that out, but I’m not,” Jackson said. “I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to SHIELD and who these other people are.” [Collider]

Why Josh Trank quit Star Wars

“It was the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make in my life,” Trank told the LA Times about his departure from the second Star Wars Anthology film. It wasn’t due to creative differences or anything like that; Trank says he said the pressure and fan criticism lead to the decision

Everest gets its first trailer

Inspired by true events, Everest follows a team of climbers who get stranded on Everest when a storm comes sweeping in. It looks incredibly brutal, and the kind of movie that will not only mentally exhaust you, but physically as well. This one comes out on Sept. 18. [TBMovies]

The Walk gets a new trailer

Ever seen Man on Wire? No. It was a documentary about Philippe Petit, who walked on a wire between the Twin Towers in New York City. The Walk is the Hollywood-ized version of that, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Petit. [TBMovies]

Michael Bay makes a film

For better or worse, Michael Bay is attached to direct a movie called Time Salvager, which is based on the Wesley Chu sci-fi novel of the same name. When Bay doesn’t have his hands on Transformers, he’s not the worst director on the block, so, sure, this might turn out to be entertaining

Obi-Wan might get his own trilogy

I mean, Disney is already going buck-wild with the different Marvel movies, so why not do the same for Star Wars? Ewan McGregor is allegedly in talks to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, with talk focusing around a trio of films that would take place between the prequels and original trilogy. [SchmowsKnow]

Batman’s weapon in Batman v Superman

And the best for last. Heroic Hollywood says that Batman could use a Kyptonite-laced spear to do battle with Superman. Remember in the trailer how Batman confidently told Superman he’ll bleed? Well, this could be how Batman makes him do it. And it is reportedly the weapon we saw Batman carrying in the trailer (image above), though it’s difficult to tell. Maybe, maybe not? Margot Robbie performs motorcycle stunt in new ‘Suicide Squad’ photos

Batfleck may be too delicate to perform his own stunts, but the same rules don’t seem to apply to Margot Robbie. The young Australian actress, currently filming Suicide Squad, was seen on set doing a motorcycle stunt, proving that when you play Harley Quinn, danger is always around the corner. OK, saying she’s doing her […]

Mad Max: Fury Road—Before and after CGI is applied

Part of what makes Mad Max: Fury Road such a miracle is the film’s presentation and use of practical effects. Many of the stunts and explosions that dazzled audiences were real, making the final product that much more spectacular. While Hollywood has been criticized for the overuse of CGI—just see San Andreas as an example—George Miller […]

Apple’s TV service will be a no-show at WWDC

Apple’s rumored TV service is like Bigfoot. No matter how badly you want to believe it exists, there’s no real proof aside from a few sketchy accounts. We thought that might change next week at WWDC, but it appears that’s not the case. According to Re/code, the Cupertino company will not introduce its fabled subscription […]

The Rock to star in ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ remake

I don’t even know how to describe Big Trouble in Little China. Released in 1986, it was more of a guy’s version of spoof movies made famous by Mel Brooks, who released a handful of cult classics in the mid-70s. But Little China took that whole premise to ridiculous new heights. And it was led […]

Marvel releases awesome new ‘Ant-Man’ images

Paul Rudd’s debut as Ant-Man is a little over a month away, yet, as far as Marvel movies go, we haven’t seen that much of the superhero. There have been a few trailers, but for the most part this project has been kept mostly under wraps, either because Marvel doesn’t want to spoil the surprise, or […]

New ‘Ant-Man’ TV spot brings the humor

A fresh TV spot for Ant-Man was released on Tuesday, and although it’s light on new footage, it’s more aimed at hyping up Paul Rudd’s superhero debut. The actor, best known for his comedy roles (and his refusal to age), is stepping into new territory by donning the Ant-Man suit. He’s still got that trademark […]

Check out the first official trailer for Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’

What if dinosaurs were never wiped out by Earth’s major impact event? Then what? Would we have some kind of Jurassic World theme parks, where dinosaurs are essentially treated like lions and tigers and bears? (Oh my!) Or would they live among us, like domesticated pets? That’s more or less the premise of The Good […]

One of the hottest directors working today, James Wan, has just been given the keys to Aquaman. After months of rumors, Warner Bros. Second ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’ trailer is even crazier than the first

Tom cruise jumping. Tom Cruise doing impossible stunts. Tom Cruise running (and shirtless!). All in a day’s work for the 52-year-old actor, who still owns the role as Ethan Hunt. I know everybody is hyped for Spectre, which is coming out this November, but judging from the first two Rogue Nation trailers, this might be […]

‘Bridge of Spies’ trailer – Steven Spielberg teams with the Coen Brothers

Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Joel and Ethan Coen are some of the biggest names in Hollywood today, and they’re all teaming up on a Cold War thriller known as Bridge of Spies.
