Capcom hires a new Mega Man producer, somebody get me a hot towel

I can’t do this break-up again, Capcom! If we’re going to do this, we’ve got to do it right. It’s called a “break-up” because it’s broken, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fixed.

The folks over at Mega Man The Board Game’s Kickstarter page have gone ahead and revealed that Capcom has hired a new producer for the Mega Man series. I mean… whoa, right? Nothing official has come from Capcom just yet, but in wake of the new animated series recently being announced, it would seem that the Osaka based publisher is serious about getting back to business with the Blue Bomber.

Fans will remember the handful of times that the rug was pulled out from under our feet at around the turn of the decade, but ever since, Capcom has been in apology mode by digitally re-releasing classics, working Mega Man into Super Smash Bros., and producing an Archie comic that is far better than it has a right to be.

I believe some serious speculation is needed over this hiring, and I’m sure the Internet won’t let me down. It’s far too soon for anything official, and my bet is nothing will be announced at E3 this year. Capcom has a very difficult job of regaining the trust of Mega Man fans when it comes to a new game, if indeed this is a “new game,” and these fans are going to be reasonably skeptical when an official announcement is made.

Capcom needs to get the timing on this just right. Expect official recognition of this hiring closer to the air date of the cartoon, probably next year, if indeed this will lead to a new Mega Man game.

What are the chances that Mega Man can return and steal the show back from Mighty No. 9?
