Apple recently posted a job listing that suggests it wants to bring its mapping app to the Web, where it will be available to more users than owners of iPhones, iPads and Macs.

The listing calls for a “Maps JavaScript Engineer” who would develop versions of Maps for the Web. The listing actually went up in early May, but it was spotted on Tuesday by tech analyst Benedict Evans.

It’s possible Apple is already hard at work on a cross-platform version of Maps, especially since we know it’s working on new features and improvements. It would make sense to introduce all of those new features with a broader cross-platform launch that also includes the Web, but we’re expecting Apple to discuss some of the features much sooner — perhaps as early as WWDC next week — and that might be too early for a cross-platform announcement.
