Nintendo NX will not be based on Android OS

Earlier this week, word spread that Nintendo’s next console, code-named the NX, would be built with an Android OS. This came from Japanese publication¬†Nikkei, and they cited sources familiar with the upcoming device.

Now, Nintendo has officially denied those rumors.

The statement issued to The Wall Street Journal from a Nintendo spokesperson is concise and to the point.

“There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX.”

That’s it, and that’s all.

We have no idea what’s coming from Nintendo when it comes to the NX. We know it will be born of their partnership with DeNA, a mobile game maker, but that’s about as far as our knowledge goes. It won’t be heard from this year at E3, according to Nintendo, so wait until 2016 for official stuff.

Unless, of course, they have to come out and deny more rumors.
