HTC’s One M9 is still only a few months old, but the company may be gearing up to launch an entirely new line of smartphones in the near future. CEO and and co-founder Cher Wang apparently broke the news during a recent shareholders meeting while responding to declining value in the company’s stock, DigiTimes reports.
The company didn’t specify exactly what kind of smartphone it plans to launch. The new series could be anything from a high-end phablet to a small plastic handset. HTC recently submitted a super-thin device for Chinese certification, so perhaps that could be the new lineup’s defining characteristic.
HTC also has high hopes for Vive, the virtual reality headset it developed with Valve, which is set to launch later this year. Of course, the company already has plenty of competition in the VR market from powerful rivals like Google, Sony and Facebook, but based on our own experiences the Vive may be the best option we’ve tested so far.
Rumor has it the company is also developing a new tablet, with recent reports pointing to a mid-range 7-inch slate. Clearly HTC has something planned for the later this year.
