Remember Project Treasure? Nintendo announced the collaborative project with Bandai Namco last year, hyping it as a third-person co-op dungeon crawler for the Wii U. I had all but forgotten about it, but consider me interested again after this weekend’s Nintendo Direct provided a first look into the gameplay.
“Rough” is a pretty fair word to use in describing it so far. “Rough” in a way that only a Japanese studio could make fun, a lot like Devil’s Third. Four friends will tour ancient dungeons in this free-to-play game, taking the role of different characters that seem to bend all logical time and space. The trailer above stars a pirate/ninja girl, a US military soldier, a ax-murderer, and a leather clad biker girl who looks a lot like Trish from Devil May Cry.
I’m sure this isn’t the entire line-up also, so expect more clashing character designs in the final product.
Together, they must kill zombies, solve puzzles, carry the wounded, find the treasure, and, eventually, escape. This doesn’t look as if it can work as as single player title, so you’ll most likely have to play with friends if you want to explore every crack of Project Treasure.
The trailer tells watchers to expect more information from Nintendo this summer. Whether it will be in English or Japanese, we can’t yet say.
