This Grand Theft Auto 1983 video has us wishing for more Vice City

YouTuber Dolce is behind our latest favorite Grand Theft Auto V video. Instead of showing off a crazy mod or stunt, though, Dolce went for style.

What would Grand Theft Auto look like as an 80s TV show? Here’s your answer. The video uses a 4:3 aspect ratio, chromatic aberration, and VHS-style artifacting to give us an idea of what it might look like if Grand Theft Auto: Vice City hit today. The video does a good job of leaving out as much modern tech as it can. Sure, there are a few things here and there; Michael’s suit should be a lot looser, for example. But it does a good job of conveying the tone.

I also just have a major weakness for Lazerhawk, the artist behind the music featured in the video.

It’s going to be a few years before we see a new Grand Theft Auto (think 2018 at least), but after two modern-day games, maybe they’ll be thinking about looking backwards for some inspiration.
