Google’s nifty Cardboard app is now available for iOS, introducing the search giant’s awesome VR experience to millions and millions of new users. Cardboard has been kind of a pet project of Google’s over the past several months, but the company is getting even more serious about what VR can do, especially in education.
Google focused on a new feature known as Expeditions, which will allow teachers to take classes on VR field trips. Gone are the days when you physically go somewhere; now you can go anywhere—maybe even space—without leaving your seat. This opens up a lot of big opportunities for classrooms, and will elevate how people learn.
There’s a new Cardboard viewer now, and can fit phones as big as 6 inches. (All Google I/O attendees will get one for free, so there’s that.) There are currently hundreds of Cardboard compatible apps, and many more to come now that Cardboard is coming to iOS. VR has never been so accessible.
