FIFA 16 welcomes women to the pitch for the first time in franchise history

EA Sports and FIFA have just announced that women will be playable in FIFA 16. This is a first for the franchise, and the trailer above touts the addition with some mo-cap footage as well as quick in-game stuff.

As for the women you’ll find? It’s the national teams, not clubs, that are present. So, expect the best players from each country rather than one or two women’s leagues around the world.

I could make some sort of bribery joke right now, but I figure I’d leave that extremely low hanging fruit to others. Instead, I’ll applaud FIFA and EA for making the right decision and bringing women to FIFA 16.

The only criticism I’ll lay down right now is that some of the character animations flashed in that clip looked pretty rough. Maybe I’m just being picky, which is totally possible, but the models and movements looked more last gen than current.

Am I crazy?

Whatever the case may be, FIFA 16 will launch for the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this coming fall. Maybe the footage was captured on the 360 and PS3…
