17M Chromecasts sold to date – 20,000 apps available

Speaking during Google I/O 2015, Google’s head of Android Sundar Pichai gave us a quick update on Chromecasts.

While it might not seem like a major product, given the price and relatively limited focus, it’s actually a pretty huge device for Google. Pichai said Google has shipped 17 million Chromecasts to date, impressive given it launched just about two years ago.

Pichai also said developers are working hard to add in support for casting into their apps, and that more than 20,000 applications support the Chromecast now. Given the growth, we expect that’s going to continue. Maybe we’ll even see a new Chromecast introduced today during Google I/O 2015.

We’re reporting live, so stick around for more news.
