The Cyberpunk 2077 teaser that released way back in January of 2013 was incredible. If you don’t remember it, it’s the video you’ll find directly above this line. It looks like it’s going to be a long time until we see more from the potential game.
We have the promise of cybernetically modified humans living in a futuristic, dystopian society based on an old pencil and paper game. It looked exceptional, and it had genre fans like me absolutely pumped for whatever Witcher devs CD Projekt RED had in mind for the game.
When was it going to release? The teaser read, “Coming: When it’s ready.”
Fast-forward more than two years, and we’re here, talking about all things Witcher 3 and GOG for CD Projekt. Cyberpunk 2077 has been absent ever since this teaser, and now the developers have offered that we shouldn’t expect to hear from the game again for a while.
CD Projekt RED CEO Adam Kicinski spoke with Reuters about their future. Here’s what he said about Cyberpunk 2077.
“We hope and we are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though. This year, and the next one will be the years of the Witcher…”
Now, I’m no math major, but this year and next being about Witcher means that CD Projekt won’t be talking about Cyberpunk 2077 until 2017.
That’s a long time to wait, but okay. Maybe I’ll have all of Witcher 3 explored by then. Probably not, but there’s always a chance.
