Pokémon Mystery Dungeon coming back, and it’s SUPER!

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon

Nintendo is once again returning to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series with a brand new entry titled Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon! Very little is known about this release besides a Winter 2015 release date for the Nintendo 3DS, but I don’t think it’ll be that hard to guess at what it is.

The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games are entry level roguelikes in which you take control of a child subconsciously morphed into an adorable Pokémon Form there, this new form will run quests, make Pokémon friends, and traverse countless randomly generated hallways and dungeons while pushing forward the local Pokémons’ agenda. A life saving migration, putting a stop to evil darkness, or just growing carrots in the garden. You name it.

What remains a mystery, though, is how this one stands out as “SUPER!” If Pikachu runs around wearing capes and superhero masks, I will just die of giddiness.

I’ve only had the chance to experience the most recent entry, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and I was surprisingly pleased with how well it played. It’s not the deepest experience out there, but those who need an entry point into roguelikes could do a lot worse.

I’ve still got Etrian Mystery Dungeon on my backlog so I might tap out on this one, but put this on your radar if you love Pokémon and want to experience one of gaming’s most booming sub-genre of RPGs.

Expect more information from the Nintendo Direct scheduled during E3 next month.
