Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that it is working on an Apple Watch companion app that will be available this fall. The app will provide information on recent journeys and things like fuel level, and it will even provide you with walking directions to your vehicle.
The Apple Watch app, which will be named MB Companion, will work with Mercedes’ existing COMAND Online technology, and will initially support model C-Class and S-Class vehicles. The German company says it aims to provide a “complete door-to-door experience.”
In addition to walking directions to your car, the app will allow you to search for driving directions before you even sit behind the wheel. The information is then passed to the Mercedes navigation inside the car, which will provide turn-by-turn directions while you’re on the road.
MB Companion will also let drivers see the fuel level, range, maintenance codes, and odometer readings of their vehicle — a lot like the new Apple Watch app from Porsche. However, Porsche’s offers some additional features, like the ability to control a car’s heating system remotely.
Additional features like this, as well as support for additional vehicles, will be added later on, Mercedes says. MB Companion will be able to download for free this fall.
