In the history of mankind, how many of our creations have been bigger than Grand Theft Auto V? The wheel, the automobile, Mickey Mouse, The Beatles? Rockstar’s immensely popular game is still rocketing up the sales charts, and the recent PC release has only solidified its claim as one of the most popular games of all time.
Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has announced in its latest financial report that Grand Theft Auto V has sold an astronomical 52 million units across the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. In terms of its overall placement on the grand history of gaming, Grand Theft Auto V sits comfortably at number 4 with only Minecraft, Wii Sports and Tetris surpassing its sales.
When we last checked in with the game, it was hovering around 45 million copies in February, shortly after the next-gen console release but before the PC release. This means that the re-release has sold 7 million copies in just a few months time, and I bet most of those came through Steam in just the last month alone.
How big is this game going to get when you can snag it for $5 in a Steam sale? Don’t ever say that a PC release won’t help your game anymore.
