Sony’s enjoying some really strong sales figures for its exclusive courtesy of From Software. The game is Bloodborne, and it’s the most recent action title from the studio that brought world the Souls games, both of Demon and Dark variety.
MCVUK sat down with PlayStation UK’s Fergal Gara to chat about all things PS4, including its stance alongside the Xbox One. During the conversation, the talk shifted to how surprised Sony was by the strong sales of Bloodborne.
“It did surprise us…We had expectations to do well. We looked at the Souls series as a frame of reference, and we thought we could do better than that. We did – and then some. Relative to some of our sister territories, we were being quite ambitious, but even that proved to be conservative.”
As for why it did so well? Gara suggests it was a mix of a relatively quiet period in game releases and the overall quality of the title itself.
“I think Bloodborne might have just landed just at the right time; it was a relatively quiet time, it was a very high quality title and a great platform differentiator for us. We were caught a little bit behind in terms of the volume, but we were able to chase it and maximise its potential.”
>There’s a lot more in the interview, which you can read by hitting the source link below and hopping over to MCV. This bit, though, I found compelling.
Bloodborne has done really well with both fans of the Souls franchise and those who’ve never tried a From Software title before. It still supposedly packs that tried and true difficulty most are looking for, and the Gothic aesthetic has been a home run.
Have you picked up Bloodborne yet?
