The Nintendo NX is what the company is internally calling the next big project its working on. We don’t know exactly what kind of console or experience it is, but we do know that development started on it in collaboration with DeNA, the company it has partnered with for its mobile efforts.

Some gamers figured we’d hear more about the NX at E3 this year. It’s time to strike that consideration off your mental E3 list. President Satoru Iwata has denied the presence of the NX at E3 for 2015. The same goes for the quality of life platform.

The word comes the Japanese investor’s meeting following Nintendo’s financial briefing. Iwata was asked directly about the NX, and he offered a few tidbits surrounding denial.

“We do not plan on talking specifics about the NX until 2016,” he started.

Later, he went on a bit more about the potential system.

“Presently, we cannot talk about the time period when it [the NX] will go on sale or what it’s like…

Because we are calling it a ‘new concept,’ we are not thinking of this as a ‘simple replacement’ for the 3DS or the Wii U.”

He took that even further to talk about smart devices and quality of life platforms. Iwata indicated that Nintendo believes that E3 is a dedicated space for games and gamers, and they won’t be discussing non-games at the show.

We’ll have more on Nintendo, E3 and their plans for the NX as it comes. Undoubtedly before 2016, regardless of what Iwata says.
