Mirror’s Edge sequel set for early 2016

Electronic Arts confirmed during a financial earnings presentation on Tuesday that the Mirror’s Edge sequel currently in development at DICE is set to release in early 2016.

The game was originally unveiled at E3 2013 with a conceptual preview, shown below. The preview doesn’t show any actual gameplay or represent what the game is going to look like, but did serve the simple purpose of showing that the developer still remembers what the franchise is all about.

The game’s final title isn’t set right now, and it’s just being referred to as Mirror’s Edge according to EA’s presentation. Much of the word on the game is that it’s a reboot rather than a sequel, with EA saying that the game “reboots the franchise for the next generation.”

Most of DICE is currently working on Star Wars: Battlefront, which is set to release this fall, while a presumably smaller group is working on Mirror’s Edge. Assuming Battlefront has a smooth release, we hope to see Mirror’s Edge in the first few months of next year.
