Samsung has promised to fix the issues Galaxy S5 owners are experiencing after upgrading their devices to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company says it will be rolling out a series of “micro-updates,” but it’s not totally clear when they’ll be available for all.
“Our engineers are currently sending out micro updates to help resolve any issues caused by the update,” Samsung told Galaxy S5 owners on Twitter. “Check your device for future software updates!”
Galaxy S5 handsets around the world began getting Samsung’s Lollipop update way back in January, and it brought a whole host of new features and improvements to TouchWiz and the company’s own applications. It should have also made some nice performance improvements.
But since upgrading to Android 5.0, many users have been plagued by all kinds of issues. Some report frequent crashes and other instabilities, while others are seeing poor battery life. Fortunately, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about last year’s flagship, and it’s in the process of delivering some fixes.
The South Korean company did not provide any specifics, but it did insist that “reported issues” will be addressed. It also said updates have already begun making their way to Galaxy S5 handsets, but for many, the release date will all depend on how long it takes for carriers to give their approval.
In the meantime, there’s not a lot you can do to improve the situation yourself. Samsung recommends factory resetting your device — which you’re welcome to try — but remember that this wipes your data, so it’s a lot of effort for something that probably won’t make much difference.
