Film Fondue: Your new Spider-Man, and Starship Troopers TV show

by Brandon Russell | May 2, 2015May 2, 2015 8:00 am PDT

It’s been a long, winding, exhilarating road over the past several months, and it all built up to this weekend. Yes, Avengers: Age of Ultron is finally in theaters here in the U.S. I hope you’ve set time aside to see it this weekend. What kind of moviegoer are you? Do you thrive on the energy and excitement of crowds, or would you rather catch an early showing that’s (probably) much less crowded?

If Age of Ultron isn’t your cup of tea, you can feast on some of the other big entertainment news from this week. I always get through a week thinking there wasn’t much news, but looking back, there was actually quite a bit. We had rumors about Jared Leto’s Joker, news of Seinfeld coming to Hulu, and confirmation of a major villain in Captain America: Civil War.

But, like before, we didn’t quite get a chance to cover everything, but these are some of the stories we thoughts were still worth sharing. A lot of good and exciting stuff is circulating out there, which you can read about below.

Kingsman: The Secret Service sequel

Blink, and you may have missed what wound up being one of the cooler movies so far this year in Kingsman: The Secret Service. And the good news is that there’s probably going to be a sequel, which is really no surprise given the positive media and public response to the first movie. A sequel hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but expect details to come out soon. [TheWrap]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 set photos

Whether you like it or not, a sequel to the live-action TMNT movie is happening, and these set photos show there’s no turning back. Nothing will top the first two live-action films from the 90s, but nothing in Hollywood can stay pure an innocent. Shame. [ComingSoon]

Female-led Jump Street movie in the works

In addition to the all-female Ghostbusters, it sounds like Hollywood wants to do a female-led Jump Street movie. So imagine Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, but played by woman. Sounds awesome! We actually have a few movies of similar vein out there, including The Heat and Hot Pursuit, but why not? Oh, and there’s probably going to be a crossover with Men in Black. [HollywoodReporter]

Hollywood wants James Wan for Aquaman, Furious 8

James Wan is the man of the hour in Hollywood right now. Fresh off directing Furious 7, Wan is being sought after for a number of different films, including Robotech, Aquaman and the recently announced Furious 8. He’ll be a busy man over the next few years. [HollywoodReporter]

New Pixar short in the works

We don’t just have full-length Pixar movies to look forward to, but new shorts as well. When The Good Dinosaur hits later this year, a new short called Sanjay’s Super Team will premiere before the film, and it sounds great. Via the L.A. Times, it’ll focus on a young daydreamer who lets his imagination take him on fun and exciting adventures. [LATimes]

Starship Troopers TV in the works

I loved Starship Troopers, maybe a little too much. As far as b-movies go, it still ranks among the best, and it says a lot when people are still talking about it. That said, it’s no surprise to hear that a TV show is being considered. I’m in! [Hitfix]

Netflix likes Green Eggs and Ham

Dr. Suess’s beloved children’s book about a humble man who does not want green eggs and ham is being developed into a 13-episode TV show. Yes, Sam-I-Am, I will take those eggs, thank you. [Netflix]

Power Rangers movie pushed back

Well, at least it’s not being canceled. Originally planned for a July 22, 2016 release, the film has been pushed back to Jan. 13, 2017. Well, dang. Your red spandex will have to stay packed away for another few years. [IGN]

Asa Butterfield as Spider-Man

Last week, a rumor claimed there was a shortlist of actor being considered for the role of Spider-Man. Now, a new rumor claims that shortlist has been cut down to just one actor: Asa Butterfield. The 18-year-old starred in Ender’s Game, so he’s fresh off the big-screen. But that role pales in comparison to the prospect of donning the Spidey suit. [Latino-Review]

Check out Will Smith as Deadshot

We’ve seen Jared Leto as the Joker, now get a load of Will Smith as Deadshot. It pretty much looks like how Smith would dress on any other day of the year. So maybe this is just Will Smith walking to the dressing room before putting on a Deadshot costume? No? OK. [WoW]

Loki in Age of Ultron? It almost happened

Here’s a fun little story about what could have been. According to Age of Ultron director, Joss Whedon, Loki almost had a cameo appearance in the film. Actor Tom Hiddleston actually filmed a scene, but it was eventually scrapped. I’ll let you find out why at the source link. [Comingsoon]

New images of Ben Affleck’s Batsuit surface online

Up until now, we haven’t really seen Ben Affleck’s Batsuit in painstaking detail. Sure, we saw it in a teaser trailer, and it also showed up in another recent video. But, for the most part, the details of the suit have been obscured by darkness—something the Dark Knight repeatedly uses to his advantage when fighting […]

A familiar face is returning to ‘Jurassic World’

I was just 8 years old when the first Jurassic Park came out, and I remember wanting to leave the theater because of how scared I was. One scene in particular, when the electricity goes out and the T. Rex breaks through the fence, had me shaking in my seat—especially when the goat’s leg is […]
