Popular live-streaming video app Meerkat launched in the Google Play Store on Friday, officially beating Twitter’s Periscope to Android. The two firms have been competing for users, so it’s a big move for Meerkat.

Meerkat had been the talk-of-the-town in the live video streaming space in late winter and early spring, before Twitter launched its own Periscope service, at the same time blocking Meerkat’s access to some of Twitter’s social tools. It seems like most users have flocked over to Periscope now, but the Android launch of Meerkat might give it the boost it needs to stick around.
