Awesome iDroid concept imagines a Jony Ive-designed BB-8

Well this is adorable. Master concept designer Martin Hajek has used his skills to imagine an Apple-approved BB-8 droid from the new Star Wars movies. The result is unsurprisingly awesome.

Hajek’s design hits all the right notes, including a glowing Apple logo, a machined aluminum body and a digital crown that doubles as a projector. The little droid even has a protruding iPhone camera for an eye and a touch screen display at the top of is head. It comes in silver, gold and space gray to match your other Apple products.

Well, it doesn’t actually come in any colors because it’s not real, at least not for now. Maybe someday in the future Apple will release its own consumer robots, and maybe they’ll something like this. In the meantime, we’re stuck with these awesome renders from Hajek.

As for the original BB-8 — is it possible its design takes some influence from Apple? We don’t really think so. Then again, we did learn earlier this year that Jony Ive talked to J.J. Abrams about lightsaber design, so it’s possible they discussed droids as well.
