In case you somehow missed it, a huge earthquake hit Nepal this week, taking thousands of lives and causing immense damage.

Distant disasters can sometimes be hard to bring close to home. For many gamers, the closest contact with the small Asian nation is via Far Cry 4, which takes place in the heavily Nepal-inspired nation of Kyrat. For the team behind the game, the link has to be even stronger.

The Far Cry team announced this week that it has setup a fundraising effort for the earthquake and as looking for donations with plans to match any donations up to $100,000.

The team released the following statement:

Having spent the last few years working on Far Cry 4, a game heavily inspired by Nepal and its people, it is with heavy hearts that the Far Cry family pulls together to raise money for the Canadian Red Cross, who are mobilizing their traveling hospital team to Kathmandu to offer support and medical assistance. The Far Cry team will match donations up to the first $100,000. Thanks for your generosity and please, spread the word.

Donate however you can, but if you want to help out via the Far Cry 4 team, you can hit the Red Cross page by clicking this link.
