ASUS on Thursday announced that it will host a ZenFone 2 event in New York City on Monday, May 18. The invite, which says “incredible comes to New York,” suggests that ASUS is preparing for a U.S. launch of the ZenFone 2, which was first introduced during CES 2015. The phone is already available in Europe.
There are two major highlights of the ASUS ZenFone 2. First, it was one of the initial Android smartphones announced with a model that packs 4GB of RAM, though there’s also an option that doesn’t have as much. Second, ASUS promised it will be an affordable smartphone that will start at just $199. It’s powered by an Intel Atom processor and also features a 5.5-inch 1080p display and a 13-megapixel camera.
It’s unclear if ASUS will simply announce broad U.S. availability through retail channels, where it may sell the phone unlocked, or if it has carrier partners on board. We’ll be at the event to bring you the news come May 18.
