If you’ve been following all the teasing and slow marketing that Microsoft has done for Halo 5: Guardians so far, it should be no surprise that we have ourselves some sort of standoff between Master Chief and a new soldier named Spartan Locke.
Now, Microsoft has revealed the cover and key art for the game, and it offers a very small glimpse at what sort of conflict we’ll see. Three Spartans working with Chief, and three Spartans working with Locke.
In case you were worried that the Covenant might not show up, the background before the giant being boasts three Banshees in flight by my count.
I’m not sure about Halo right now, to be honest. 343 Industries has done some things right, but they’ve shown that they don’t have as firm a grasp on making these games work as Bungie once did. Halo 4 felt lesser than the trilogy before it, and The Master Chief Collection has been steeped in misfires since launch.
I’m excited about this potential plot line, and I’m hopeful that 343 is going to knock the game and its multiplayer out of the park. It’s just not a sure thing like it once was.
Halo 5: Guardians is set to ship for the Xbox One on October 27, 2015.
