Deus Ex team takes jabs at Treyarch over similar plotline in Call of Duty: Black Ops III

It’s all fun and games until someone gets their feelings hurt by an artificial augmentation! Seriously, in the future, mankind is going to feel the physical pain of Twitter posts, and Treyarch will have to deal with some third degree blisters thanks to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided studio Eidos Montreal’s sick burns.

This weekend featured the reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops III, the latest in Activision’s world famous shooter franchise, and we got a brief look into its plot surrounding artificial augmentations in soldiers and where we find the division between man and machine. Eidos Montreal took to the Internet social channels to call the studio out on writing a similar story to those found in its Deus Ex franchise.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Art Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête also jumped in on the fun with a few cigarette ashes of his own.

I’m sure it’s all just jesting. Eidos Montreal suffered a similar thrashing when Deus Ex: Human Revolution wrapped itself up with a “push this button for this ending” mechanic. The themes in the Deus Ex franchise are hardly new, and Eidos Montreal is hardly the best at diving into those topics. However, it’s just nice for a studio to drop the PR facade of the AAA video game scene for a few minutes and allow for some good old’ fashion verbal rough housing.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Coincidentally, Call of Duty: Black Ops III will also be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Are you going to call them out for copying you on that as well, Eidos Montreal?
