Google killed off the Google Glass Explorer Edition earlier this year, when it announced that Nest founder Tony Fadell was taking over as head of the program. We know the initiative isn’t dead, but we didn’t know when a new version was going to hit the market. Comments made by a Google partner suggest it won’t be much of a wait.
Speaking during a company meeting, Massimo Vian, CEO of Google eyewear partner Luxottica, said that Google is building a second and third version of Google Glass. The Wall Street Journal said he confirmed it will “be out soon.” Vian reportedly met with Google at its headquarters in California recently, though didn’t provide any details on the new wearable.
“In Google, there are some second thoughts on how to interpret version 3,” Vian said during a meeting with shareholders. “What you saw was version 1. We’re now working on version 2, which is in preparation.”
Again, we’re not sure when Google will reveal the second version of Google Glass, but it seems plausible it will be discussed during the company’s annual developer conference, Google I/O, in June.
