Axiom Verge coming to Steam on May 14

One man indie team Tom Happ has confirmed that his game Axiom Verge will be released for the PC through Steam on May 14. This game of five years in the making will be evenly priced with its PlayStation 4 counterpart, launching at $19.99.

Axiom Verge was created to pay homage to a handful of your favorite NES classics in one package. Hints of Metroid, Bionic Commando and Contra run rampant through its classic 8-bit presentation, and it has already done quite well for itself on the critics circle thanks to the PlayStation 4 release.

Our own review praised its solid mechanics, tight controls, graphic and musical prowess, and intimate knowledge of the 2D exploration”metroidvania” genre but also criticized how it comes up a bit short on original ideas, never doing enough to surpass its roots as an homage. Despite being a little underwhelming, it might actually turn out to be one of the best games of the year if things don’t pick up in 2015.

Axiom Verge will be released for the PC on May 14.
