Another major Chinese company may be jumping into the smartphone market. Sina Technology reports that PPTV, a sort of local Netflix rival, will soon launch its own handset, and points to to leaked renders of the alleged device.
This new PPTV phone looks pretty nice, at least based on a handful of leaked images. The display goes completely edge-to-edge, and the design is slim with what looks like a soft plastic back panel. We also see a large rear camera with dual LED flash, a headphone jack up top, a possible home button below the screen, and some sort of port along the bottom of the device.
Tuesday’s leak follows an official announcement from LeTV, another Chinese video streaming firm with big plans for mobile. The company’s upcoming Le Superphone boasts a USB-C port, a 21-megapixel camera, a Snapdragon 810 processor and an edge-to-edge display. It comes in several variants ranging from 5.5-inches to 6.3-inches in size.
It’s unclear if PPTV will offer similar specs, but both companies are likely to emphasize video streaming as a key feature. Hopefully we’ll learn more soon, though there’s still no guarantee this new rumored handset will be available in the U.S. or anywhere outside of China.
